Hoelscher Weatherstrip Manufacturing epitomizes what it means to be a family business. Started by Henry Hoelscher in 1958, his three sons, Derek, Charlie, and Mark Hoelscher, now own and operate the company. The brothers purchased Hoelscher from their parents in 1992 and have steadily grown it since, all while maintaining family values. With a new facility in Tomball, the next chapter of the business is being written.

Ideal Location

Hoelscher specializes in door and door units for residential applications. The full-service company supplies and installs doors for a number of local builders, distributes to builders across the southern United States, and sells directly to consumers.

Located at 2400 S. Persimmon Street in the Tomball Business & Technology Park, Hoelscher occupies 193,000 square feet of office, warehouse, and showroom on just shy of 17 acres. The location in the Park is an advantage for Hoelscher's growing fleet and distribution needs.

With 99 and 249 right here, the highway network is favorable. We're following the growth and customer demand.

At Home in Tomball

The Tomball Business & Technology Park's advantages go beyond location for Hoelscher, which is pleased with the diverse local and international manufacturing already attracted to the Park and with how the Park is maintained and managed by the Tomball Economic Development Corporation (TEDC). The vetting process and the due diligence by the City of Tomball and TEDC, was appreciated by the company. Hoelscher sees this as a great match.

There is stability and peace here. You know the vision, so it helps you feel good about the investment you make in the Park. We feel comfortable that the TEDC will make the right decisions.

The community feel of Tomball is important for the company that promotes a family atmosphere. The welcoming nature of the City, TEDC, and neighbors in the Park confirmed the company's decision to move to Tomball was the correct one.

"Tomball has been very welcoming. It's like we've been friends for years and years and years," added Charlie.

Strategic Space

Growing name recognition in the industry, and a booming residential market, has delivered significant growth for Hoelscher. The company's success necessitated the move from its former Jersey Village location, where it operated from approximately 100,000 square feet. The approximate 90,000 square feet of additional space in Tomball has been instrumental in helping Hoelscher store inventory its warehouse.

The ability to maintain inventory has proven to be a major asset during the rampant supply chain challenges facing the world. Early in the Covid-19 pandemic, which coordinated with Hoelscher's move to Tomball, the company took an aggressive approach to buying product. The decision, which was achievable due to the space they owned in Tomball, has paid off.

Family Feel

Another advantage of the move has been Hoelscher’s ability to grow its team with increased office space. Since opening the Tomball facility in April 2020, the company has added more than 20 employees for a total of 139. Adding employees was a necessity for Hoelscher, but also something the company does not take lightly. Every employee is a valued member of the team and part of the family.

"We as owners are here every day for our employees’ needs. We treat everybody the same, including ourselves," said Derek.

"We take our jobs seriously because we recognize we have 139 families to provide income for," added Charlie.

Treating everybody the same also means offering premier customer service. This is a value that the brothers' parents instilled in them and one they pass down to their employees.

"We were taught the value of customer service from the beginning. We've carried over the instructions our parents gave us," offered Derek.

Sustained by its values and thriving because of market demands, Hoelscher blends the right combination of business acumen and humble ideals. A family business with care for employees, customers, and neighbors fits what Tomball is all about—a welcoming community with a business friendly mindset. Hoelscher’s Tomball story is one of promise.
