Visit from Congressman Wesley Hunt, Made in Tomball Highlight TEDC Economic Development Week

TOMBALL, TEXAS (May 8, 2023)- The Tomball Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) joins communities nationwide to celebrate National Economic Development Week from May 8-12, 2023, in recognition of the positive contributions of economic development in our local community.

The week brings awareness to the policies, programs, and professionals that support job creation and retention, a stable tax base and a community’s quality of life.  TEDC celebrates nearly 30 years of development success, which has occurred through its core activities- attracting new businesses & industry, promoting business retention and expansion, and coordinating economic development efforts in Tomball.

“Economic Development is an essential component of a community’s success and quality of life,” said Kelly Violette, Executive Director of TEDC. “In addition to supporting local business growth and redevelopment, our goal is also to ensure that Tomball continues to be a vibrant community with a strong economy.”

Economic Development Week kicked off early in Tomball when the TEDC hosted United States Congressman Wesley Hunt at the award-winning Tomball Business & Technology Park on May 5. Congressman Hunt toured Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions and Hoelscher Weatherstrip Manufacturing where he observed state of the art technology for the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries and a leading full-service manufacturer of doors and door units.

Veolia and Hoelscher are among the companies who have been responsible for $85 million in capital investment and more than 500 jobs created in the Park. The 99.5-acre Park reached its goal of being 100% sold in May 2023.

“During Economic Development Week, Americans can reflect on the vital role that economic development plays in our country's success,” offered Hunt. “Continued investment in pro-business policies are essential to fostering a dynamic business environment in which companies can grow, create jobs, and contribute to economic prosperity.  America needs it now more than ever!”

“It was an honor hosting Congressman Hunt to highlight a sampling of the outstanding companies that call the Tomball Business & Technology Park home. The Congressman is a tremendous champion for economic development. The TEDC values his advocacy and looks forward to continuing our strong partnership,” said Violette.

Later this week, TEDC and Visit Tomball will celebrate Economic Development Week with the launch of Made in Tomball, a program to promote locally-made goods and support the growth of small businesses in Tomball. Details on the program will be shared through a joint announcement during Economic Development Week.

“Made in Tomball is another tremendous resource for local businesses. We are excited to highlight the vibrant and unique companies and goods that make Tomball so special,” said Tiffani Wooten, Assistant Director of the TEDC.

Created in 2016 by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest international professional trade association for economic developers, Economic Development Week aims to increase awareness for local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and improve the quality of life in communities everywhere.
