Costco Files Permits for Location in Tomball

Costco is planning a store and fuel station at the northeast corner of Hwy. 249 and Holderrieth Road in Tomball next year, according to documents submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The store will sit at 161,131 square feet and cost $16.2 million to build while the fuel station will be 10,000 square feet and cost $2,108,504 to build, according to the permits.

Costco’s company policy is to not comment on future locations until they are ready to share details, usually two to three months in advance, according to Costco representatives.

At its Sept. 19 meeting, Tomball City Council approved the first reading of a rezoning request for 25.87 acres of land at the corner of Hwy. 249 and Holderrieth Road, changing it from a planned development district to commercial zoning. Tomball Community Development Director Nathan Dietrich confirmed in an email Costco is working through the proposed rezoning.

“We are currently reviewing the civil site plan, which looks at the infrastructure, utility and site development of the site,” Dietrich said in an email.

The store itself currently has a completion date of September 2023 while the fuel station has a completion date of October 2023, according to the permits.
