Tomball EDC Launches Application for Summer Youth Employment Program

TOMBALL, TEXAS (March 18, 2024) – The Tomball Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) has opened the application for the recently created Summer Youth Employment Program. The application remains open through March 31 for young adults aged 16-20 who attend high school or college in Tomball and are eligible to work in the United States. Youth with disabilities are eligible to participate up to age 22.

The Summer Youth Employment Program provides meaningful, paid summer employment in a variety of industries, giving hands-on-experience and a taste of real-world work environments. Businesses located within city limits of Tomball are eligible for up to $4,000 in grant funds to hire up to two summer interns over a seven-week period not to exceed 140 hours of pay. Twelve companies have signed up to participate in the Summer Youth Employment Program. A variety of industries are represented, creating diverse opportunities for interested students.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must reside and/or attend school inside city limits of Tomball or within Tomball Independent School District’s jurisdiction. Additionally, applicants must be at least 16 years old by April 1, must show proof of enrollment via a valid student identification card or current report card, must provide a social security card, and must commit to completing the entire seven-week session.

Applicant interviews will occur between April 29 and May 24. An offer letter will be presented to those selected by May 31. The employment window begins June 1 and ends August 15, with businesses choosing a seven-week work period within that time frame. Limited slots are available, therefore, job placement is not guaranteed to all applicants.

“The Summer Youth Employment Program is a great way for local students to explore outstanding career opportunities that exist in Tomball. With such a strong initial response from our local business community, participants will get a great understanding of Tomball’s wide-ranging industries,” said TEDC Assistant Director, Tiffani Wooten. “The TEDC continues to emphasize education and workforce development and I know this program will help further those strategic initiatives.”
